Choosing the right pool lights

There is no denying that soothing, colourful lights highlight your pool beautifully at night. They also make your pool area attractive and safe when the sun goes down. Pool owners often look to either LED, halogen, or fibre-optic lights to enhance their pool ambience. Below are some features of these lights to help you choose the best type of lights for your pool:

• LED lights. LED pool lights are the most in demand among pool owners. They offer an array of colours, are energy efficient, and durable. In fact they consume 80% less energy than other pool lights. LED lights can be installed in any pool. They are intensely bright, so if your pool is not so big, more than likely less is more and you probably only need one LED light. LED lights are less expensive than fibre optic lights. They generally last for about seven to fifteen years. The only challenge is when you need to change the bulbs. For this task, you must remove the housing unit and bring it above the water. It can take about half an hour to change the bulbs. If you are apprehensive to touch a light bulb in your pool area, it may be best to call an electrician to do it for you.

• Halogen lights. Halogen lights used to be very popular, but since technology has evolved dramatically through the years and other options have largely taken their place. Nevertheless, many homeowners still prefer them. They are economical to install and very attractive. They offer a limited choice of colours but they can light up your entire pool easily. If you are looking for a softer, more  romantic style of lighting, halogen lights are not for you. Energy efficiency is the main issue for halogen lights. They consume more energy than LED lights.

• Fibre-optic lights. Fibre-optic lights are the best pool lights you can get. Installing them in your pool can is sure to improve your swimming experience. These lights are offered in a vast array of colours. They are very versatile and can be placed around your pool, underwater, or inside your water feature. Also, fibre-optic lights are easy to replace. They are usually encased in a dry box. All you need to do is open the box and change any bulb. The process is faster than changing LED light bulbs. When it comes to durability and cost effectiveness, LED lights are better.
