How deep is a fibreglass pool?

Fibreglass pool depth across the 37 models in the MFP Easy range runs from shallow ends of 0.90m to 1.45m and deep ends of 1.00m to 2.00m. Most shells carry two depth numbers: a shallow end and a deep end. Two numbers appear because a moulded floor is graded: it starts at a standing-depth entry and falls away towards the far end. The deepest shells reach 2.00m. Four shells hold a single level depth from end to end, so their shallow and deep figures are the same. Those four are the Infinity 3 and Infinity 4 at 1.45m, and the Bastia and Elba at 1.00m. Every other shell in the range has a graded floor. There is no single average depth, because depth is a property of the model. On an adult the shallow ends are waist to chest height and the deep ends are over head.

The two figures on each row are the shell's shallow end and its deep end, measured to the moulded floor. A graded floor means the depth changes as you move down the pool: you stand in a Portofino at 1.10m at the entry end and are in 1.60m of water at the far end. The four level-depth shells hold the same number at both ends, so the floor is usable at one depth wherever you stand.

The Latina is 4.50m long with a 1.78m deep end. The Elysian is 8.30m long with a 1.75m deep end, so the longer of the two shells has the shallower deep end. That is why fibreglass pool sizes and depth have to be read together off the same model.

Published shell dimensions are approximate. Thursday Pools states that actual lengths, widths and depths vary by about 2 to 3 percent. Latham and SwimUSA state a variance of up to 3 percent. Leisure Pools states that measurements are taken at the widest outside edges as a guide. The depth on the chart is the shell's depth; your finished water depth is confirmed in your quote once we measure the site.

How deep can a fibreglass pool be?

The deepest fibreglass pool in the MFP Easy range is 2.00m. Three shells reach it: the Amalfi at 9.00m by 3.60m, the Saint Louis at 9.5m by 4.0m and the Kensington at 11.00m by 4.00m. That figure is the ceiling for the whole range. We install moulded fibreglass shells, so depth is a property of the model, and we cannot deepen a shell to order. MFP Easy sells moulded shells with fixed depth profiles and does not build custom depths.

Two things set the ceiling. Each shell is moulded to a fixed floor profile in a factory and cures as one rigid piece, so the floor is finished before anyone has seen your yard. Every shell then arrives on a truck and is craned into the excavation in one piece, and a deeper shell is a taller load. The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator sets general-access heavy-vehicle limits of 4.3m height and 2.5m width; a load over either limit counts as oversize, and it needs a Class 1 permit before it travels.

Other Australian manufacturers publish deep ends on the same pattern. Premier Fibreglass Pools Australia lists a 7m by 3.6m shell at 750mm shallow to 1.6m deep, and a 10.4m by 4.4m shell at 980mm shallow to 1.87m deep. Both of those corroborating deep ends sit below 2 metres.

A longer shell does not mean a deeper shell. The longest shell in the range is the Saint Azur at 11.48m by 4.45m, and its deep end is 1.96m, so the longest pool in the range is not the deepest one. Every depth available to you is already printed against a model in the fibreglass pool range, so the choice is made by reading the chart. If the depth you want sits beyond 2.00m, concrete is the construction method that produces it: Endless Pools & Spas AU states that concrete pools "can be built to any shape, size, or depth".

Can you get an 8-foot deep fibreglass pool?

No shell in the MFP Easy range reaches 8 feet, which is 2.44m. The deepest is 2.00m. Buyers regularly ask for an 8-foot deep end, and the moulded range does not go there.

The 8-foot fibreglass shells that do exist are US models on very long hulls. River Pools & Spas (US) publishes a depth ladder by shell length. Fibreglass pools 27 feet and under run 3.5 to 5.5 feet deep. Shells of 27 to 35 feet run 3.5 to 6.5 feet, and shells of 35 to 44 feet can run 3.5 to 8.5 feet. An 8-foot deep end exists in fibreglass only on roughly 40-foot shells (US). The deepest fibreglass shell recorded in any market is 8 feet 6 inches, about 2.59m, on US models 16 feet wide by 40 feet long, and none of those shells is available here.

So the imperial ladder splits cleanly at 6 feet. Everything at 6 feet and under has an equivalent somewhere in the range, either as a shallow end or as a deep end. The rungs above it, from 7 feet up, sit beyond the 2.00m maximum deep end in the MFP Easy range.

Can a fibreglass pool have a deep end, a flat bottom or one depth?

A fibreglass pool can have any of the three, and the MFP Easy range carries all three: a deep end, a flat bottom and one depth. Flat bottom and one depth name the same level floor, and four shells hold it.

Most shells in the range have a graded floor, and the drop between the two ends is substantial. The Sheffield runs 0.98m at the shallow end to 1.96m at the deep end over 8.00m of length. The Bellino runs 1.06m to 1.84m over 6.50m. On a graded shell the shallow figure is at the entry end, the deep figure is at the opposite end, and the floor slopes between them.

Four shells hold a single level depth instead. The Bastia and the Elba hold a level 1.00m over 3.2m and 4.0m of length. The round fibreglass pool range is two models: a 3m diameter and a 4m diameter, each at a level 1.45m depth. That depth holds from one side of the circle to the other, so a round shell has no shallow end and no deep end.

Five terms describe pool depth: flat bottom, one depth, hopper, sport bottom and V-bottom. Two of them name a floor we install. "Flat bottom" and "one depth" both name the level floor the round shells, the Bastia and the Elba carry. "Hopper" is a US term for a shaped deep well. River Pools & Spas describes about 12 feet of flat floor at 3.5 feet, a 13-foot ramp, then about 14 feet of 8-foot deep water. The deep zone consumes most of a 40-foot shell. "Sport bottom" and "V-bottom" are US terms with no equivalent in the range. No shell in the MFP Easy range uses a hopper, a sport bottom or a V-bottom.

Every shell in the range except those four level-depth models has a deep end, and those deep ends run to 2.00m.

Can you dive into a fibreglass pool or add a diving board?

No. None of the shells we install is a diving pool, and no model in the MFP Easy range takes a diving board.

The Royal Life Saving Society Australia states in its Visiting Your Local Swimming Pool fact sheet that a swimmer should not dive where the water is less than 2 metres deep. The deepest shell in the range reaches 2.00m at its deepest point. The clearance a dive needs in front of it is set out in Interpreting safe diving guidelines (5 February 2026) from Royal Life Saving Australia. The guidance sets 7.0m of clear space in front of a dive, and the first 5m of that space should hold at least the recommended water depth. A graded shell that reaches 2.00m at the far end does not hold 2.00m for the first 5 metres from the edge a diver would enter from.

The 2.00m depth ceiling comes from the mould, not from a rule applied on top of it. The deepest figure published against a model is the mould's maximum internal depth, and that figure does not change after manufacture.

Manufacturers of moulded shells take the same position on their own products. Latham, Thursday Pools and SwimUSA state their pools are non-diving, prohibit diving equipment unless otherwise indicated, and do not manufacture or sell diving boards or slides.

The one Australian depth-for-diving figure published by a pool builder sets the bar higher again. Leisure Pools states that pools 2.50m or deeper suit a diving board, while shallow pools around 1.50m suit playing games. Nothing in the MFP Easy range reaches 2.50m.

What depth should you choose?

Pick the floor profile that matches the people using the pool, then read the depth off the model. Depth is not a number you supply; it arrives with the shell.

The range gives you three outcomes:

A graded floor starting near 1.0m. The Sovereign runs 1.00m to 1.63m and the Empire runs 1.00m to 1.75m. A shallow end at about 1.0m is a standing-depth entry a small child can use, and the deep end is water an adult can swim in, in the same pool.
A level 1.45m round shell. The round range is two models, a 3m diameter and a 4m diameter, each holding 1.45m from one side to the other. That is chest-to-shoulder depth end to end for an adult and over head for a small child, with no shallow corner anywhere in the circle.
A 2.00m deep end. Only the Amalfi at 9.00m, the Saint Louis at 9.5m and the Kensington at 11.00m reach it, so 2.00m comes attached to a shell of 9 metres or more.

A shallower entry improves usability, not safety. What changes the risk to a small child is supervision and the barrier. Royal Life Saving's National Drowning Report 2025 records that in 2024/25 "drowning deaths of children under five fell to 15 fatalities, 21% below the 10-year average, and half in home swimming pools". Royal Life Saving's national drowning data identifies the backyard swimming pool as the leading drowning location for children aged 0 to 4.

The barrier applies at every depth in the range. Queensland law defines a swimming pool as a structure "capable of being filled with water to a depth of 300mm or more", and the QBCC states the fencing obligation triggers at that 300mm. The requirement itself sits in the Building Act's pool fencing provisions, as recorded in the Queensland Government's Amendments to the pool fencing laws. Under the Act every residential outdoor swimming pool must have a fence placed around it before water "to a depth of more than 300mm" is put in. The QBCC requires that fence to be "at least 1200mm high (measured from finished ground level to the top of the fence)" with a "maximum gap of 100mm". Every shell in the chart is deeper than 300mm at its shallowest point, so no model in the range is exempt from the barrier.

FAQs

Is a 1.1m pool deep enough?

For standing, yes. For swimming, no. A 1.10m shallow end is standing depth for an adult. On a graded shell that figure describes the entry end of the pool. The Serenity runs 1.10m to 1.47m and the Portofino runs 1.10m to 1.60m, so the 1.10m figure tells you where you get in.

Is a 1.5m deep pool enough to swim in?

Yes. The round shells in the MFP Easy range hold a level 1.45m depth from one side to the other, and the majority of the range's deep ends sit between 1.5m and 2.0m. A depth around 1.5m is normal swimming water in a moulded shell. What limits swimming in a small pool is its length, not its depth.

Is a 2m pool deep?

2.00m is the deepest water in the MFP Easy range, reached by the Amalfi, the Saint Louis and the Kensington. It is still under the safe-diving floor once forward clearance is counted. The Royal Life Saving Society Australia states a swimmer should not dive where the water is less than 2 metres deep. Its safe diving guidelines say a dive should have 7.0m of clear space measured from the pool edge, with at least the recommended water depth through the first 5m of it.

Why are fibreglass pools shallower than concrete pools?

Because a fibreglass pool is moulded to a fixed floor profile and arrives at the property as one finished piece. The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator's general-access limits of 4.3m height and 2.5m width cap what a truck can legally carry without an oversize permit, and that cap reaches back into the shell. Endless Pools & Spas AU states that concrete pools "can be built to any shape, size, or depth", which is where a depth beyond 2.00m has to come from.

Does a deeper fibreglass pool cost more to install?

Depth is not a line item you add or remove. You choose a model, and the deeper shells in the range are the longer ones, so the installed price moves with the whole pool. There is no per-metre depth charge, because there is no depth to specify.
